Are your documents and data safe in the Cloud?

I’ve been copywriting a number of blog posts, case studies and articles for Nottingham-based NEXOR. This small, but incredibly innovative company has developed a range of secure information exchange systems that protect the most sensitive and confidential data when it’s whizzing around the internet.

These systems aren’t really aimed at individuals and fairly big companies. They work at the Jason Bourne level of secrecy and security, and are used by defence, government and critical national infrastructure organisations across Europe.

To put it in perspective, the NHS probably wouldn’t have suffered such a catastrophic system meltdown recently if their sensitive and highly confidential data had been protected by NEXOR.

Obviously, NEXOR are at the very cutting edge of cyber technology, and promote themselves as thought leaders in their industry. They regularly publish online articles, case studies and white papers showcasing their latest innovations and in the realm of cyber security.

I wrote a white paper for them earlier this year entitled, ‘Enabling Secure Information Exchange in Cloud Environments.’ The paper examines the disconnect between the idea that the Cloud is inherently insecure, with the reality that it may actually be more secure than traditional, on-site file storage systems.

The paper argues that it doesn’t really matter which security protocols you’re following in the Cloud. If you apply strong principles around secure information exchange - the Cloud Cyber Essentials – you’ll find an effective solution. Some industry boffins even argue that the Cloud is more secure, as shown by the fact that leading organisations worldwide are migrating workloads to the Cloud to improve the security of critical data.

The white paper is an interesting read honestly, particularly if your business has software, images, documents and data tucked away in the Cloud.
