Why no-one blogs better than a blog copywriter

Blogs. Blogs. Blogs.

Every company wants one, but very few actually want to write them.

Which means that the Word Dept is often asked to do blog copywriting for businesses of all shapes and sizes.

It’s no wonder they’re so popular.

Blogs are a friendly, unpressurised way for you to talk to your customers and prospects, and build relationships without selling to them. You can position yourself as an authority and thought leader in your industry.

And of course, you can keep in touch with people so your company is always front of mind.

So your blogs need to be well written, informative, engaging and entertaining, which is a difficult trick to pull off. Which is why we’re often asked to write them.

So why is a blog copywriter better for your blog?

Simple.

Because copywriters are used to selling things. Unlike many content writers and bloggers they know how to pull out the key information in the story.

And then link this to the psychological and emotional triggers that drive everyone – look younger, get richer, save money, be fitter, look smarter, be trendier, enjoy peace of mind, be everything you want to be.

What’s more, copywriters know how to persuade people to take action. And one of the ways they do that is with AIDA.

Not the Verdi opera, but a simple formula that was first used by direct mail copywriters but works just as well for blogging and content writing.

It grabs a person’s attention, hooks them into reading more and leads them to take action at the end of the blog.

It stands for Attention, Interest, Desire and Action.

Attention

The headline and intro are the two most important parts of any blog post and they have to draw readers in. Here are a few proven techniques:

Interest

Then you have to keep them interested.

Relate to your audience and get them to feel more comfortable with you, by showing that you feel their pain. And that you know how to take it away and are about to pass on this valuable information…

Desire

A skilled blog copywriter will tap into the reader’s vulnerabilities and fears and ignite their desire to make changes.

This emotion will drive the reader through to the end of the blog post where they will be told exactly what to do next…

Action

As with any other piece of advertising or social media, the reader will be told what action to take. This is known as the call to action or CTA.

It could be to Like, Share, Follow, Comment, Order, Browse, Reserve, Subscribe, Sign Up or anything that you want.

Copywriters know how to write great CTAs that get response.
