Never work with children or animals? Rubbish, they're a Godsend.

I was chuffed recently to help out an agency in Derby with headlines and copywriting for an adoption campaign for the RSPCA.

The ads and posters support the work of the Abbey Street Animal Rehoming Centre in the city and encourage people to adopt, not shop.

Basically, the message is that if you’re thinking of getting a pet, it doesn't have to be a brand new cute kitten, puppy or baby rabbit from a pet shop.

That’s because the RSPCA has literally thousands of deserving animals of all shapes and sizes that need loving homes.

Just go and have a browse, and who knows who you might end up taking home.

An alternative campaign was based on the idea of the animals adopting the humans, which happened with me and my cat Cleo.

Here are the headlines:

Nigel wasn’t looking to adopt.
Until Thumper decided to adopt him.

Ben never thought of adoption.
Until Mrs Twiggy Winkle thought of adopting him.

Adoption never crossed Betty's mind.
Until it crossed Jerry's mind.

Anne and John never considered adoption.
Until Bruiser adopted them.

These are the posters which are featuring on Facebook and Twitter, and there are ads which are going in local press.

If you’re looking for a loyal companion who really needs a loving home, go to www.rspcaderby.org.uk.
