ADS OF THE DAY: Citroen

Elsewhere on this site I’ve talked about the great campaign for the Citroen 2CV developed by Colman RSCG in the 80s.

I thought I’d found all of the great Citroen ads created by Colman RSCG in the 1980s.

But no.

I’ve unearthed a few more beauties for other Citroen models.

Enjoy.

Ad. 1, who says car safety ads have to be boring?

In the ad above, the Citroen model is the GSA and the proposition is safety. The copywriting and creative approach are bold and visceral.

Very different to Abbott Mead Vickers’ more conservative safety-focused campaigns for Volvo which won awards through the 80s and 90s.

But the two styles reflect the differing values of the two brands.

Ad. 2, who says comparison ads have to be boring?

Would you rather have the sexy French Citroen CX shown above, full of quirky Gallic charm?

Or a Ford Cortina?

Ad. 3, who says range ads have to be boring?

And Ad. 4.

Who says that innovation ads have to be geeky?

This ad for the Citroen Visa diesel talks about the unique liquid-filled engine mounting which soaks up the shakes that ordinary diesel engines give you.

For any overseas readers, collywobbles is English slang for feeling nervous, anxious or jittery, hence the image.
