ADS OF THE DAY: Radio Rentals
I know I keep banging on about Collett Dickenson Pearce but they really did produce outstanding creative work for an inordinately long period of time.
If you want to understand why they were different and how they revolutionised advertising and creativity in Britain and beyond, check out this video.
Go on, watch it. It will be the most informative and inspiring thing you see this week, trust me.
As part of its 50th-anniversary celebrations in 2012, D&AD scoured its records to find out who picked up the most Pencils in its history.
Yes, it was CDP, Collett Dickenson Pearce & Partners.
It was the place where Frank Lowe, David Puttnam, Alan Parker, Charles Saatchi, John Salmon, Robin Wight, Geoff Howard-Spink, Don McCullin, Gray Jolliffe and many more started their careers.
Under creative director Colin Millward, CDP flourished in the 70s, winning D&AD Pencils for work on Heineken, Harvey's Bristol Cream, Bird's Eye, Hovis, Benson & Hedges and Hamlet cigars.
They were still knocking out great stuff well into the 80s, like this campaign for Radio Rentals.
Yes, it was the 80s.
So rampant sexism was the norm and everyone was doing it, not just CDP.
Thankfully, that’s all changed.
